James 1:12 NIV - “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”
Early in the first few years of my marriage I was really enduring some trials. There were some things happening that I just could not believe were happening to me. I remember saying to myself “now God I know those 11 months of premarital counseling were not in vain.” Personality changes and behaviors I had vowed to endure until death did us part.
Well a friend of mine who had some way more serious hardships shared this scripture with me. She said when things get tough she focuses on perseverance. She knows that her blessing is soon to come. This scripture lets us know that even as we follow Christ, we will endure trial. Yes, I was one that thought, “well at least if I get married I won't have to deal with the drama.” Um, absolutely not!
I learned quickly that following Jesus does not prevent things from happening to you. But what about the blessings that God promised? Well clearly according to scripture following Christ, leads to trials but blessed is the one who perseveres. The way to the blessing is pressing through even when it's hard. Christ is giving you the strength to go through the trial and come out of it a transformed person.
Over time, my husband and I both endured some trials with one another and it was God alone who gave us the strength to persevere but we are both blessed beyond measure due to us sticking it out.
Don't take it lightly when something hurtful, or upsetting happens to you. It can be good for you. Go through your trials with the confidence that God is with you. Giving you peace and joy to get through it. Transforming your heart through the process. If trials last longer, there is more work to be done, just persevere.
Dear Father,
Thank you for your blessings through trial. Trials come to make me strong so that you can use me at your will. Lord help me to see that when something difficult comes my way, I can trust that it is working out for my good and not for my destruction. Thank you Lord. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
