Matthew 7:25 “The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
“What in the world happened last night?”, I wondered, as I headed to work Thursday morning. Branches had fallen everywhere, debris was scattered across the lawn, my car looked like it had been through a pollen storm. I slept so well the night before, so I was shocked to learn there was an overnight wind storm. After seeing several large trees completely uprooted and laying across busy streets, I decided to contact some friends to see if they had seen or heard anything.
One friend immediately recalls how fierce the wind was and how it kept him up most of the night. He could hear the wind racing past his window and branches being separated from the trees. As he recounted his experience, I thought, how could we have the same storm raging around us , but experience it so differently. My thoughts immediately turned to Jesus!

Pastor Wilson challenged us not to be eclipsed by darkness and to let our light shine in every situation. When faced with a storm in your life, and those around you seem to be struggling, or can’t sleep, or being pushed around by the very same storm you’re facing, YOU can be a light to them by simply being still and knowing that God is God. You can let your light shine by resting in the care of Christ and trusting that He is your shield and has all control over the storm. Show them how letting go and letting God can bring forth an everlasting peace in any situation.
I know it’s not always easy, but it’s definitely always worth it!
Heavenly Father, You and you alone are good, so I thank you for the storms in my life because I know and trust that You are good, even in the midst of the storm. Help me to shine the light you’ve given me in my darkest times so that those around me might know the same everlasting peace you’ve given me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
